Built for legal defensibility
Documio provides the technical foundation for trustworthy digital documents — cryptographic integrity, verifiable timestamps, and complete audit trails.
How we establish trust
Every document in Documio is protected by multiple layers of verification that create a tamper-evident, time-stamped record.
Cryptographic hashing
Each document receives a unique SHA-256 hash that changes if even a single character is modified. Mathematical proof of integrity.
Trusted timestamps
RFC 3161 compliant timestamps from trusted authorities prove exactly when your document was created.
Sealed documents
Final PDFs are digitally sealed with embedded hashes and timestamps, creating self-verifying documents.
Complete audit trails
Every action — creation, view, modification, export — is logged with timestamps and user context.
Immutable records
Once created, document records cannot be altered or deleted. Append-only architecture preserves evidence.
Verification portal
Anyone can independently verify a document's integrity using our public verification tools.
The integrity model
A clear explanation of how Documio protects your documents.
1. Document creation
When a form is submitted, Documio captures all data along with metadata: submission time, IP address, browser fingerprint, and any user authentication data. This creates the complete evidence context.
2. Hash generation
The document content and metadata are combined and processed through SHA-256, producing a unique 64-character hash. This hash is like a fingerprint — any change to the document would produce a completely different hash.
3. Timestamp binding
The hash is sent to a trusted timestamp authority, which signs it with the exact time. This creates cryptographic proof that the document existed at that moment — proof that cannot be backdated or forged.
4. Document sealing
The hash, timestamp, and original content are combined into a sealed PDF package. This PDF can be independently verified by recalculating the hash and checking the timestamp signature.
Important: What Documio is and isn't
Documio provides: Cryptographic document integrity, verifiable timestamps, immutable audit trails, and structured data export. These create strong evidence for the existence and content of documents at specific times.
Documio does not provide: Qualified electronic signatures (QES), legal advice, or guaranteed legal validity in any jurisdiction. We follow eIDAS-aligned principles but are not a qualified trust service provider.
For contexts requiring qualified electronic signatures or specific legal certifications, please consult with a qualified trust service provider and legal counsel.
Designed for compliance
Documio's architecture supports common compliance requirements while remaining flexible for different regulatory contexts.
Data retention
Configure retention periods per document type. Automatic archival and deletion policies.
Access controls
Role-based permissions, audit-logged access, and secure sharing capabilities.
Data export
Full data portability. Export all documents and metadata in standard formats.
EU data residency
Data stored in EU data centers with appropriate security certifications.
